Professor Boris Soroka CV
Prof. Boris Soroka (born in 1939) after having graduated from the National Technical University “Kiev Polytechnical Institute” joined the Gas Institute, National Academy of Sciences, Ukraine (NASU) in 1962. He has been working at the Gas Institute since then up to the present, his last position being the Head of the Department of High Temperature Heat & Mass Transfer.
Prof. Boris Soroka obtained his Ph.D. degree in Industrial Heat Engineering at the Institute of Engineering Thermal Physics of NASU, Kiev.
He is a Doctor of Technical Sciences since 1987 (his thesis in Metallurgical Heat Engineering was defended at the Moscow Technical University of Steel and Alloys).
Since 1993 he is a Professor in Industrial Heat Engineering.
Main areas of scientific activity of Prof. Boris Soroka are: development of applied combustion theory from the standpoint of chemical thermodynamics and kinetics along with transportation constituents including the radiative ones, convective and combined heat transfer, computation of high-temperature processes and equipment, the CFD modeling of combustion processes and chambers, numerical simulation of heat engineering and power plants, environmental aspects and pollutants formation. Areas of development and invention activities: designs and operation modes of furnaces, combustion systems, heat exchangers and of different burner facilities. The results of such an activity of Prof. Soroka are protected by 65 national and international patents.
Main implementations of developed equipment are: the fuel furnaces, combustion, low-emission burners and high temperature heat recovery facilities.
During the last 20 years Prof. B. Soroka continuously cooperates with the Gas Technology Institute (GTI, Chicago, USA) in the area of low-emission combustion modeling. He participates in the fulfillment the international scientific projects with universities and research institutes in EU as well.
Prof. Soroka is the author of more than 365 research publications (published in Germany, the USA, France, Russia, Portugal, Great Britain, Hungary, etc.) including more than 20 books and monographs.
Prof. B. Soroka was awarded with G.F. Proskura’s Premium of NASU for an individual cycle of the works in combustion ecology and energy efficiency (2006) and with Academician A.V. Lyikov’s Premium of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences for the cycle of works in area of heat-and-mass transfer under chemical reactions (2007, as a member of an international team). In 2012 he was awarded with the National title of Honored Member in Science & Technology of Ukraine.
