Alexandr S. Kalinichenko

After graduating from the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute (now the Belarusian National Technical University) in 1972 Alexandr S. Kalinichenko worked as a junior researcher, senior researcher, head of the Research Laboratory of Applied Physics and Heat Power Engineering at the Belarusian National Technical University. Since 2004 and up to the present he is a Deputy Vice-rector for Scientific and Innovative Work of the Belarusian National Technical University.

In 1978 he defended the PhD thesis (Technical Sciences), in 2001 – the dissertation of Doctor of Technical Sciences.

A. S. Kalinichenko is a well-known specialist in the field of the material science and physics. His academic works are dedicated to the development of bases for the materials formation under non-equilibrium conditions of solidification, including high-intensity molding processes, laser and additive technologies and nanotechnology. He formulated the problem of calculating the advancing front of solidification at high intensity of heat sink and the problem of determining the value of the overcooling of the melt, depending on the cooling rate from the liquid state. The above-stated made it possible to assess the nature of the structure of the solidifying metal and to control the properties of the obtained castings. The resulting patterns were used to create the special aluminum alloys containing transition metals. Under the guidance and with the direct participation of A. S. Kalinichenko new compositions and technology of obtaining composite materials with macroheterogeneous structure surpassing many traditional composite materials have been developed. The products made of developed materials are intended for use in heavily loaded friction units, in particular for the normalization of the thermomechanical condition of turbines at heat power plants.

Alexandr S. Kalinichenko delivered presentations at research centers and universities of Russia, Germany, South Korea and other countries. He is the author of more than 300 published works, including five monographs and 40 patents. A number of his papers were published in reputed world journals.
